The Space Science Clubs Launch by M.D School

On Monday, 12th May, 2014; M.D Nursery and Primary School held a pre-launch media meeting for the Space Science Clubss at its New Oko-Oba location in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA of Lagos State. Speaking at the event was the Head of the Space Education Outreach Programme of the African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in English, Dr. Omowunmi Alabi. She said, “Nigerians are likely to join the rest of the world in the visit to space anytime from 2025. This is because
the Nigerian Government has put strategies in place for the
development of space technology in the country”. She said that the main strategy to achieving space science and technology development in the country is by propagating the message to children in primary schools.
The Proprietress, M.D School, Mrs. Omolara Adedugbe, during the media meeting said that the decision of M.D Nursery and Primary School to take up the full cost of the launch of the Space Science Clubs was its belief in the future of the children and the gesture was also a part of the school’s
Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Space Science Clubs launch at the M.D Nursery and Primary School, New Oko-Oba, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos on Tuesday, 13th May, 2014 ushers all the 23 primary schools invited into a body of more than 300 Space Science Clubs recognized by the United Nations. The Space Education
Outreach Programme of the African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in English headed by Dr. Omowunmi Alabi is in partnership with the federal government and is affiliated with the United Nations. Pupils of M.D School were evidently proud and elated as the launch of this prestigious Clubs took place at the New Oko-Oba location of the school. Pupils of both the Agidingbi and New Oko-Oba locations presented, for the education and entertainment of their peers from the 23 invited primary schools, short plays and recitations done with award-winning performances that brought ovations and cheers from the audience. The launch also featured a reading session (Max goes to the Moon), quiz competition and robotic display by pupils of M.D School. 
 

The Managing Director, UAC Foods, Dr Tawanda Mushuku, who chaired the occasion, was made the grand patron of the Space Science Clubs. He admonished the pupils to “Remember five things: love to create things; understand and build on the basics; be disciplined; excel in all subjects; and love and appreciate nature,” if they desired a future in
the sciences. 

The Proprietress, M.D School, Mrs Omolara Adedugbe, said despite spending a lot to host the event for the African Regional Centre for Space Science and
Technology Education in English (ARCSSTE-E), she was happy that the activities of the Clubs would spread knowledge to many children who would become professionals in future...

"...And we wouldn't be surprised if a couple of pupils from M.D school are on the first Nigerian expedition to space come 2050."
